What is a reversal, and how is it different from a refund?

Learn how reversals work and how they appear in LegitFit.

Why Use This Feature?

Refunds and reversals may look similar but have different causes. Knowing the difference helps you explain them clearly to clients and track them correctly in your reports.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Refunds

    • Initiated by the provider through LegitFit.

    • Processed by Stripe back to the client’s original payment method.

    • This can take up to 7–10 working days to return to the client’s account.

  2. Reversals

    • Happen when a payment is refunded very quickly after being received.

    • Funds never actually reach the provider and therefore don’t appear as a refunded payment on a client’s bank account.

  3. In LegitFit, reversals are still displayed as refunds, so noting how quickly they were refunded is important.

What Happens Next

You’ll know whether a client’s payment was refunded or reversed by checking the client’s bank statement — refunds appear as returned funds, while reversals may not.

Success Tip

If a client can’t see a refund on their statement, check if the transaction was actually reversed instead.
