What does “Pending Payment” mean on a membership?
Understand what’s happening when a payment attempt doesn’t go through and what LegitFit does next.
Why Use This Feature?
Pending Payment status helps you track payments that have not been completed but are still in progress.
It covers both failed payment attempts and payments waiting on client verification, giving you visibility without cancelling access too quickly.
Step-by-Step Explanation
-
Pending Payment appears when:
-
A payment attempt for a membership or subscription is unsuccessful, or
-
A client has not yet completed 3D Secure (3DS) verification for their payment.
-
-
Pending Payment can happen:
-
On the first attempt to charge a client, or
-
On any subsequent retry for an existing subscription.
-
-
If the payment fails due to insufficient funds, expired card, or similar issues:
-
LegitFit automatically retries the payment.
-
By default, retries happen up to 8 times over a 14-day period.
-
-
If the payment requires 3D Secure verification:
-
The payment remains pending until the client completes the verification step with their bank.
-
No retries are completed until verification is finished.
-
-
During the retry or verification window:
-
The subscription remains in Pending Payment status.
-
LegitFit continues attempting to collect payment where applicable.
-
-
If payment is successfully completed:
-
The status updates automatically.
-
The membership or subscription continues as normal.
-
-
If all retry attempts fail:
-
On day 15, the status changes to Payment Failed.
-
The subscription is then cancelled automatically.
-
What Happens Next
-
If the client completes 3D Secure verification or updates their payment details in time, the payment succeeds and nothing further is required.
-
If retries are exhausted without success, the subscription ends and access stops according to your product rules.
-
You can intervene at any point during Pending Payment to contact the client and help resolve the issue.
Success Tip
If you see a Pending Payment status, it is worth checking whether the client needs to complete 3D Secure verification. A quick reminder to approve the payment or update card details often prevents unnecessary cancellations.
